A team from Microsoft and the Clubhouse 274 staff got together on Saturday 27th June to set up the first batch of Classmate laptops with Microsoft's latest OS, Windows 7.
The Classmate project is community initiative and is in its first stage of providing low-cost, high quality laptops to the youth of Otara. The partnership with Microsoft New Zealand is ensuring these touch-screen tablet laptops will have the most secure and feature rich platform available, before its even released to retail stores.
The laptops will be going home to Clubhouse 274 members and students from their host schools, Te Whanau o Tupuranga and Clover Park Middle School and the youth will be able to use the Clubhouse Wireless Mesh from home to have access to their school files, the Clubhouse servers, and a large number of New Zealand based educational, government and community websites, all free to use.
Clubhouse 274 is also working with Microsoft on a "Cloud" solution to combine with it's own social networking site "The Haps" to really encourage and support the latest innovations in social learning and sharing of ideas, skills, expertise and awhina (support).
